Jump from 2.9.2 to 3.1.1 - store changes?

Hi,

Having been entirely enslaved for the duration of my Angband career to the Tk variants I've been stuck on 2.9.2 for ages. Finally decided to take the plunge and generally very impressed by the changes made, especially interface and ID improvements.

Also changed from my usual choice of Paladin to a Priest and been phenomenally lucky in terms of early drops: before 1000' I'd picked up a +3 Wis Blessed Lance with FA, a Helm of True Seeing for SI and an armour of Elvenkind with RPois. Which pretty much sets me up for the first half of the game with both ring slots free. No Phial though.

Now at around 1200' and diving as fast as I can - I can never seem to find stairs down when required.

So generally things are going well. However I've been caught out by some apparent changes to the stocks of the store. In particular my 4th basic spellbook never seems to be in stock at the temple - has this now become a dungeon-only item? Also I've seen no stat potions at all in the black marker, nor amulets of wis in the magic store. Have these been removed from their respective stores as well? Stat gain is going to be tough if I have to rely on drops alone ...

Hi Matt, the fourth prayerbook is indeed rare in the shop, but from time to time, one appears there (it is NOT dungeon-only). The same for stat potions - in my experience (3.1.2v2), you can buy it approximately 1 in 20 visits to the black market. With amulets of wisdom, I am not sure. I can't remember if I have seen one in magic shop. Good luck with priest, they were always my most favourite classes

Ah thanks. Oddly enough on my next play session after reading this message the fourth book was in the temple Still no stat potions in the black marker though. I'm sitting on such a fat stack of unspent gold it's almost criminal.

I have to say I just played a "special" level that had two artefacts on the floor - the Scimitar and the Short Sword with extra attacks (I forget the names). But to my amazement I got fully three more artefact drops fighting monsters on that level! One of the 'thanc daggers and one of the low-power gauntlets (both useless) and ... the Leather Cap of Thranduil! Telepathy before 1500', wayhey!

Nothing strange here, there are already a lot of experimental data confirming the fact that the RNG reads this forum.
