    Does the STUDY indicator lie?

Version 3.1.1, running on UBUNTU Linux 10.04 (Lucid)

At level 19, Ranger indicates STUDY (2). BUT... trying to do a G(ain) on any of the spell books (Magic for Beginners, Conjurings and Tricks, Incantations and Illusions (which shows lots of open ones to learn) all result in "nothing to learn in that book" errors.

    What gives?

Maybe the minimum level of the remaining spells are all above lvl 19?

I think "STUDY" just means "you have more space in your head for spells" rather than "you possess a spell you could learn"

There are spells in dungeon spellbooks that you could learn at this point. However, you don't have the spellbooks, so you can't learn the spells.

This happens frequently, especially at lower character levels where your CL will be between the CL's needed for the spells you have, and the next lowest spell level. Level up one more time and you'll just get 3 or 4 spells at once.

<STUDY> just indicates that you'd be able to learn another spell, if there was one available to learn.

Yet another thing that could use tweaking re: spell lists, methinks.

Study indicates that there is a spell that you can learn; it just may not be in one of the books you have. (Like Mage Resist Cold spell or priest Detect Monster spell)

Not to be contrary, but more for my own clarification:

Say a low-level caster is between CL7 and 9 (if memory serves). It is possible to have several spell slots "learnable" but at that point there are no spells that can possibly be learned, right?

The spellbooks those spells are in, generally aren't around until ~CL20 with normal play. For the most part they won't be missed even they were relocated to be available.

(E.g., one of the missing level 5 spells for priests is a very expensive Detect Monsters in Godly Insights, really need more mana to cast routinely anyway).
Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)

Actually - it's exactly that - thanks ! No spells at the current level, but when I leveled-up, there were multiples available to fill the "slots".

                  Thanks!
