    v3.1.2 Artifacts?

My level 26 ranger has gone as far a dlvl 21, and killed 16 uniques, but has not seen even one artifact. This seems very strange to me.

My birth settings are to randomise artifacts, and the "restrict creation of artifacts" flag is set to the default no.

This is either incredibly bad luck or a bug. Has anyone else seen this?

Expecting artifacts, other than the Phial, under DL20 may be wishful thinking. Go deeper, DL30 sure, DL40 maybe, even DL50 if your equip supports it.

Your experience sounds typical of one of my characters, but I dive faster (DL=CL*2), I've also never even come close to winning.

Once you fish around dlvl 30 or so, you'll get plenty of low level artifacts (and maybe a really good one)

You guys are probably right. I've never played for so long without finding a few artifacts. Maybe it's just that I always find the Phial alot earlier. I'll let you know when I get my first one.

        Thanks for responding!

It is true that the Phial has been made somewhat more rare. I used to see it drop like clockwork every game and now it often doesn't happen for awhile.

Yeah, the phial has been taking a while to drop for me, and also by now I haven't collected all the daggers and *paurch'es yet.

But hey, at least a lot of the old artifacts are now worth equipping... like wormtongue!

              Thank you.

The Phial went from rarity 1 to rarity 5 way back in 3.0, and that made it much much more than five times as rare. I think I toned it back down a bit (checks ...) - yes, it's now got rarity 2.5 (alloc_prob = 40).

I cannot complain. Playing 3.1.2 doing down to dl26 with cl26 rogue I have found the Narthanc, Hitlomir and the Phial of Galadriel. Maybe it is just bad luck not finding anything, kingwanabee.

Yes of course, i paniced too soon. I found a random phial on level 25 today. The Phial of Carin, it lights up like Galadriel and has +1 wis and sustain cha. I also found Gauntlets Harech +4 dex. Oddly when I put the gauntlets on, they didn't reduce my spell points. Is this another artifact bonus?

Sorry for the false alarm. Thanks for the responses everyone.

Any gloves which provide free action or a dexterity bonus don't interfere with spellcasting.

Really?, I thought artifact gloves would be unsuitable for spellcasting if they don't have Free Action. So I sold a pair of Paurhach I found earlier today without even trying them on. But when I looked them in my artifact knowledge, I see neither dexterity bonus nor FA, so maybe it was not a mistake at all to sell them.

Also, Alchemist's gloves are always suitable for spellcasting. So make sure to check them if you are unsatisfied with your current gloves. (Alchemist's gloves of power are quite nice.)
