    Morgoth dropping The One Ring?

This is a question for the folks who win a lot more often than I do.

How common is it for Morgoth to drop The One Ring? I only have 18 wins, but thus far he's dropped it twice.

The first time he dropped it I figured it was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Since the second occurrence, I've been wondering if it's as special as I originally thought it was.

I'm in the habit of diving relatively slowly and taking out all of the Uniques before I get to Morgoth. Maybe I'm exhausting the supply of artifacts, leaving fewer artifacts available for Morgoth to drop and therefore a greater likelihood of The One Ring being chosen when he dies?

(Please note that I am NOT complaining. Seeing the Plain Gold Ring on the ground after defeating Morgoth is a perfect end to the game.)

I play like this too (slow and eliminate all the uniques before the final two) and I don't recall him dropping it. But my guess is that you have seen most or all of the other artifacts before killing him.

Only once for me I think, but that's going back to the early 2000's and several hundred wins, so my memory could be hazy. Sauron has dropped it a couple of times, the rest of the time it's been (rarely) found in a vault of some description.

I dont think the amount of artifacts found previously influences the chance of finding new ones. Afaik, the game creates an item by whatever rules, rolls a check for artifact, if that passes, it rolls the artifact and if the rolled artifact has been found already it makes an ego item instead.

Aren't randarts created when the character is created? They get saved into randart.log and don't seem to be updated as the game continues.

If so, there are a limited number of randarts to discover and they aren't created on the fly.

And of course if you're not playing with randarts, there is a set number of artifacts which does not change.

Yes artifacts are fixed, stand- or randart. Trying again: when the artifact check passes, the game picks an artifact from the list. If it has been found already, it makes an ego item instead.

Got it. Sorry for misunderstanding what you said. In that case, there's no higher chance of getting the One Ring the longer one plays. But is there more of a chance that Morgoth drop it than say Sauron?

Yes - The One has a min level of 100, which means that if all checks pass, there is one additional check if the dlvl is < 100.
