    Blowing Dust Off Vanilla 3.0.9 Character (Mac)

    Hey folks,

    I just recently started up again with a Vanilla Dwarf Ranger that I
    was working on more than I year ago and I'm looking for suggestions.
    I'm at dungeon level 52/53 right now and I'm starting to run into
    those 'very quick' uniques that summon (not deadly, just becoming more
    and more irritating).

    Could I get any recommendations based on my equipment/home inventory
    (and dungeon level) if I should be wearing something else? My
    equipment based speed is +6...I keep thinking I should swap one of my
    rings for the Speed +5...

    I would probably carry the ring of poison resist with you as a swap, and I'd use the ring of speed +5 over the damage +13, especially since the extra speed will take you up to +11 and the damage bonus from the ring doesn't apply to ranged attacks anyway. Other than that, I don't see any obvious room for improvement.

      I agree with MarbleDice... If you get an extra half turn, you effectively get to attack .5 times more than you did before, which should be much greater than +13 damage. Let alone, it makes it easier to escape and maneuver.

      However, why would you use the Long Bow of Power over the light crossbow of the Haradrim? The crossbow will give you x4 damage on bolts, which do inherently more damage, and you get a bonus to your shooting speed, which is huge for uniques you may want to take down with ammo. Or, you could even use your long bow of extra shots... Won't do as much damage as the crossbow, but it gives you 2x the number of shots you can get off at a monster, and even though the damage may not be as high per shot, getting 2x the number of shots in should be better...

        I almost gave him the same advice before I realized he's playing a ranger, which gets extra shots with short and long bows. Compare:

        Long bow of power = (2.5 ammo + 20 bonus) * 3 mult * (1 base shot + 2 class shots) = 202.5 dam/turn
        Long bow of extra shots = (2.5 ammo + 9 bonus) * 3 mult * (1 base shots + 1 bonus shot + 2 class shots) = 138 dam/turn
        Crossbow of haradrim = (3 ammo + 11 bonus) * 4 mult * (1 base shot + 1 bonus shot) = 112 dam/turn

        For any other class, the light crossbow would be the best choice.
