I've never had a character survive beyond dlevel 58 before, but now I have one who looks like he could possibly win: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=9337. Any advice about the endgame would be much appreciated.

general tips; play it slow and smart.
Cary items that will give you a swap-resist of something, in case you want to fight a monster that breaths it.
Care about dex less. I won't say the spoiler details, but dex doesn't matter for blows after a certain point.
Read the spoilers. IMO the best piece of advice you can get. If you don't want to, then probe all new monsters to get a general idea about them, and try lots of different gear combos to figure out what gives you the best fighting ability.
Things like high weapon weight could be better then you may think...
Abuse clairvoyance. It is my favorite spell. Go to a lvl, clairvoyance, look to see if their is a nice vault, or something that looks cool nearby, then leave and clairvoyance again. Fastest way their is to get god gear.
Love the idea of 'living to fight another day'. If you don't resist some breath a new, powerful monster has, either teleport it away, or just forget about whatever it was guarding.
Have at least a basic understanding of how line of sight can be used to your advantage. One example can be found here
The great thing about high level priests, is that, if you know how to use/abuse them right, you can get the most godly gear ever, with little to no risk, and **KING**. But this is only if you know how to play their endgame right.
At the very least remember this; abuse your heals, and Freak out if you get into danger that can't be solved by healing yourself one time (surrounded by monsters, or fighting something too tough, or low on mana) -

2. Get more speed. +12 isn't enough for a priest.
3. Get more damage. You are way underpowered there.
4. Start collecting potions at home. (Don't carry all your !rMana with you--it's absolutely vital to have 6-10 vs Morgoth, and the more you carry, the more you will lose to cold damage.

Chaos hound instadeath.
He just died.
The Cat Lord commanded him to return. This landed him in a room with some Chaos hounds. They took him from full hp down to -16 before he had a chance to react.
Thanks for the help in any case.Comment

While you probably didn't know the Cat Lord could teleport_to, you should have known that the chaos hounds were there and that you shouldn't risk it. Better luck with the next guy!Comment

In the future, the easiest way to deal with them is to lure them to a place of the dungeon you don't care about and destruct or WoD them away. (if you have those spells) The more deadly hounds are a bit rarer than the normal elemental ones, so you can find some levels without them. Chaos hounds are not that common, and since you didn't have chaos resistance you need to be insanely cautious about them, they are absolutely deadly.
You need to be casting detection often enough that you don't ever land in a room with them, unless you are unlucky enough to get teleported away into a room of them. (if you meant tele_away instead of teleport_to, then yeah, it's not your fault, it's crappy luck)Comment

I agree that the hounds are overpowered, they suck, and there are always too many of them on any level below 1000'

hounds are the absolute worst now with the default settings turning the AI up. My current deal is to mainly lure the hounds down a long twisting hallway and try to beat them a few at a time in a curve where only 3 can see me or less. Trying to bust into a room full of hounds will never happen, so I just back up and hope some of them follow.
Also, any calls to raise the rarity on the hounds? I've tried this on my own and IMO it makes the game more pleasurable for non-mage characters. (this was a while ago, my current games have the correct edit files)Comment
