Any way to fix the Esc problem for Linux?

    Hello,
i know that i can simulate Esc with some backtick ´`´ ...
But i would like to use Esc under Linux

Ist there any way to fix that issue?
I am playing over PuTTY, not on a Linux console ...

    Thanx a bunch

The 'problem' of the escape key is not a feature of angband, it's a feature of certain linux terminal modes, like for instance if you connect to X using putty on a shell account you have somewhere

Is it really so hard to press the next key down?

Now, i dont know for others, but i am from germany with a german keyboard layout and for me, i need to press ´`´ instead of Esc ...
And for this, i need to press the following keys:

      Shift (hold)
      `
      Space

This is, "Hold Shift", press the ´ key and then the Spacebar to get a `
And this is a quite bad sequence to type for something i need so very often ...

      :-(

Would be happy to "fix" this - whereever and however
