Hi all, I used to play angband, and have come back after a few years of playing tome and furyband. I can'rt seem to get any of the graphics to work. The options are in the menu bar, but the game can't find them. What am I missing? Thanks for your help.
No graphics?

Assuming you are trying to use the David Gervais tiles. Are the files 32x32.bmp and mask32.bmp present in the Angband/lib/xtra/graf folder?
If not, you can get them from here.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

Just tested it, no problems encountered. All graphic modes are functional.
Could it be related to screen resolution?
Are you able to view the .bmp files in any graphics viewer? Just in case the download was corrupted.
Is the path to the files as supposed ".\lib\xtra\graf" ?Comment

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure how to check the path to the file.Comment

What he means is, are the bmp's in a folder called graf, within a folder called xtra, within a folder called lib, within the parent folder, Angband. It's the only place Angband will look for them. If all else fails, try rebooting.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

Have you started a game yet? As I recall, after a new install the graphics won't work until you have a character going.Comment

Well, but the option from the menu is only available after a new game was started. Since he has the option and gets an error message there must be something else.Comment

Deleting 32x32.bmp resulted in the 'Cannot initialize graphics' pop-up. It sounds to me like the file is corrupt or the path is wrong. I don't know how either of these could occur with a fresh download.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

I have a dizzy memory of something similiar. I think I had a problem once with unpacking.
Try a different unpacker or different ways of unpacking.Comment

Hey - it's working! I took off the 3.1.1win from the parent folder, leaving it with the name angband. And now I have graphics. How about that? Thanks for all your help!Comment

That's odd. There was a rule not to have dots in windows file names. Okay, but why did it work for me?
Anyway, have fun!Comment

dots are ok in file names now, as long as the ending file type is correct. If a file doesn't have a filetype though you can't put a dot in the name because it will change the name even if you specifically tell the computer what program is supposed to be used.Comment
