Is there a bug in changing Maximize during Character Creation?

I've been having a little bit of a problem trying to make Angband reset Maximize during character creation and my most recent reincarnation has an absurdly high STR stat. I forget the details of setting Maximize as off, but I'm pretty sure these numbers are very off-kilter. And I also thought the first set of stats couldn't exceed 18 just after creation.

For comparison, in this same version, I pumped 12 points into a Half Troll Warrior's STR and it started at 18/90.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been pointed out.

    Code:
      [Angband 3.1.0 beta Character Dump]

     Sex Male Age 13 STR: 18/70 +2 +5 +0 18/140
     Race Half-Orc Height 65 INT: 7 -1 -2 +0 4
     Class Warrior Weight 159 WIS: 8 +0 -2 +0 6
     Title Rookie Social Pariah DEX: 18 +0 +2 +0 18/20
     HP 20/21 Maximize Y CON: 18/10 +1 +2 +0 18/40

Could something be causing the racial and class modifiers to apply twice? If you applied them to a base roll of...

      STR 18
      INT 10
      WIS 10
      DEX 16
      CON 16
      CHR 10

      You would get...

      STR 18/70
      INT 7
      WIS 8
      DEX 18
      CON 18/10
      CHR 5

...which is what the base values are coming up as.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I think that, when you switch Maximize from N to Y at character creation, it sets the BEST stats as the SELF stats. I'm going to test to see if it can be reproduced.

Update: I have reproduced it. It seems that when you play a previous game without Maximize, then set your game to Maximize in the next, the Self and Best stats get mixed up. I'm about to try with another Race Class combo.

Second update: I reproduced it with a High Elf Mage. Should I include the dump in this post or the next?
