I've reached the endgame (http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=8920) and I'm trying to maximize for M.

I know I need all the potions and scrolls and things (left 'em home while scumming for cool stuff)... I was just wondering: which bow is better for taking on the big cheese? Bard does more damage but gets less shots... just don't know what to pick.

Also, is it feasible to find a melee weapon better than the Mace I'm carrying?

Bard is the best for a Ranger, by quite a bit. (3 shots x 5 mult > 4 shots x3 mult)

I noticed in your ladder post that your arrows of slay evil had damage specific for dragons. Is that a property of Bard?

Yes. And Cubragol has a fire brand, which is not so different from what it was in previous versions.
