Old player is back...

greetings folks! i am a (supposed) old angband player... after several years i decided to play it again and i am here for a small trouble...

i used to play angband in 2000 with the version 283: now i have some saves of my high-elf mage and they dont work with the latest version...

is there any way to retrieve them? or, as an alternative, where can i get the version 283?

Savefile compatibility was recently broken in version 3.1.0 - I think you're out of luck there.

You can get 2.8.3 (and I believe any version at all) here.

Yeah, but 'here' appears to be having network trouble at the moment.

Instead you can go there for versions up to 3.0.6. It might be worth seeing if your 2.8.3 character can be loaded in 3.0.6.

There might be a way to hack the code to load up your old file and convert the data to a recent savefile.

Your save file will work in versions up to 3.0.8. 3.0.9 cleaned up the .txt files, with the unavoidable side effect that old save files are broken.
