Personally, I wish there was a way to turn the autosquelch off, I'm not a hardcore enough player to care too much about killing junk on my own. As of right now, all it's done is cause un-IDed stuff to be marked as squelched, which while I guess is kind of a not so bad thing, it's no fun if there's no room for me to accidentally screw myself. Fix it, please oh please oh please oh please. I really want to get pissed off at accidentally killing a gnome mage on '50 by drinking some poison.
UnIDed items being marked squelched

Well, you can turn off squelching, press =S and clear squelch options for items that your present char didn't find yet... and hence a convenience feature becomes tedious!
This problem is worse than just avoiding bad items though, it's soooo exploitable... by adjusting squelch settings on the fly you can essentially ID any item that a previous incarnation found. A bit handy if you need to figure out which ! is spd or CCW or if you want to know what that _ does!
It might be smartest to completely depopulate the squelching list when a character is born, ie remove the items, not just the squelch settings. You sold a Broken Sword (1d2) (-2,-4) {average} (j) for 1 gold.

It's true that you can't currently just turn off the whole {squelch} mechanism; you have to wade through the squelch list and disable tagging of everything individually. That's a pain, I agree, and a good candidate for a feature request. Hint hint.Comment
