Where oh where did my char dump go...

OK, as an exxperiment, I copied the Angband folder *and the entire contents* to a different subtree. Then I launched it. There was no saved character available to play.

This suggests that the game is saving those files somewhere else entirely, and not in the /user directory.

Extremely odd. I'm gonna get a shovel and start digging. It's crazy, because searching for the character name returns nothing. not a save file, not a char dump, not a pref file. Nothing.
I miss autoscum... but not that much.

      It's not odd, it's Fista ...
For the same reason that Mickysoft decided it was a great move to hide known extensions, they now figured it would be insanely wise to move all files written by apps which are installed in c:\programs\ to some hidden folders in the users profile.
Search for +Vista +Savegame +folder and googy will surely tell you details ... I can't because I don't use Fista, never will and always forget them anyway ...
Ok, was curious myself (again), .. seems it must be a hidden folder, something like ..
      "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Pr ogram Files\Angband\.... "

No, I don't have a clue 'bout C, and I'm not starting my own variant.
      Never. Ever.

I found it, I found it!

I finally found my character dump. here it is. Thanks for everyone's help in locating the thing. It was very very elusive. Now the question is, how do you format this thing so it is readable?

If you're using Windows you might need an EOL converter. Other than that you just need to use a monospace font (like Courier New).

The easiest method would probably be to upload it to the Angband ladder and post a link. (See "Ladder" tab).

Use Wordpad or Word. Do not use notepad (probably the default .txt editor/viewer).
                  Right click, open with, wordpad.
