Suggestion: Combine points-based with standard roller

    Idea:
    1. Each stat rolls 7 + 1d3 + 2d4 (= 10 to 18)
    2. Points are calculated as if you had paid for those stats.
    3. If point total is above 24 (max when point-based) then highest stat is reduced by one. Go to step 2. If point total not above 24 proceed to step 4.
    4. You now have a random set of stats with possibly some points left over to spend. Use + / - to adjust stats to taste or take 'as is'.

Just curious, what is the motivation for this?

My guess is to eliminate the massively underpowered character rolls?

A little birdie tells me the auto-roller is probably going soon. The standard roller might go at the same time which would just leave the points-based.

I like having 'rolled' characters some time, but I can understand wanting to make starting characters 'consistent'. My suggestion is a way of (sort of) having both.
