    damn potions of salt water

    ....just got killed by one

i was even able to recall, obviously the general store was on the other side of town...

are they supposed to be so nasty? I guess i'll learn to always keep handy a ration of food and not ditch them to have an extra inventory slot for treasure, eh

Yes, they are supposed to be very nasty.
    1. !CCW, !CSW, !CLW provide 75 dungeon turns of nourishment at normal speed (150 turns with slow digestion.) Note that fainting makes this much less, so you should suck them down first to bring you back to "weak". It takes ~7 potions to do so, with some turns turns left over.
    2. You can use teleportation to bounce around town and get home faster.

Nevertheless, you should carry enough sustenance to get you through a decent size checkerboard vault. (You really don't want to come home without clearing them.)

I have a related question: does buying food take a turn?

My CL30 HE Rogue died of starvation on the turn he was stepping into the general store, literally in the doorway. If I had an extra turn, would he have made it, or would he have died with the food in his hand?

I was too busy grieving to take a character dump.

PS Speaking of character dumps, reducing burden when we eat is a violation of the conservation of mass. Instead, Angband should convert the food we eat into, ah, waste, as time goes on.

Burden is reduced only when we take the "dump waste" action.

Failure to "dump waste" over an extended period of time will result in serious consquences. I'm thinking slow, then reduced likelyhood of "dump waste" succeeding, then poison.

That just sounds like a shitty idea
