If you could get one amazing lucky find in the early game, what would it be? speed? weapon? armour? something you can sell for lots of cash?
I recently found of Potion of Experience at only 350', instantly jumping from PL9 to 30, but my character was still squishy and had no decent weapons, armour, speed, telepathy etc.
And I've found some great Dragon Scale Mail early game, but if that single breath attack didn't outright kill, I was screwed waiting for it to recharge.
Maybe my most useful early finds have been really good (but not artefact) bows, that can be used at a distance and replacement arrows are cheap, light and easy to buy/find. No recharge time, and can't be destroyed like a staff/wand.
