Ammo better thrown than slung?

I found these beautiful pebbles:

Branded with poison.

Combat info:
Average thrown damage: 30 vs creatures not resistant to poison and
10 vs. others.

but for whatever reason if shot from a non-magical sling, the damage was lower (25) than when it was thrown...


That somehow feels... wrong.

Slings are (x2), bows (x3) etc....so throwing should be (x1) ?

Anything with the throwing tag has a weight based multiplier. In the case of iron shots ~ x2. Unless you are a rogue you'll still be more accurate with the sling. Pretty sure rogue is the only class that levels up throwing.

Edit: From memory the damage difference in the original post is an inconsistency where throwing multiplies the brand and shooter multipliers are added to the brand.

Right. I notice throwing hammers are the best since they're heaviest. I particularly like throwing Oromë though--does massive damage and never breaks.
