I just ran across a randart that can destroy doors. Why would I want this?
What's the Point of Door Destruction?

Many many years ago the game was substantially different - closer to a Dungeons & Dragons simulation. Doors were either open, or locked, or even stuck, and you needed to open them via picklocking or via bashing. Bashing took time, could stun you, and would make noise.
We even had metal spikes that could be used to spike doors so mobs would need more time to open them.
Today it still takes time to open doors, you probably don't see it, but sometimes if you are being chased by mobs, you can see they move multiple turns before you open the door. There is no longer a difference between lockpicking and bashing.
Anyway, Destroy Doors was useful then because it took a single turn to guarantee a door would be open. Today it's just a remnant of that game mechanic that could probably be removed from the game."i can take this dracolich" -
For some reason I think that you can destroy doors and cause shard damage to monsters. Maybe I read that somewhere? I think I tried a few times but to my knowledge I have never successfully damaged a monster in this way.Comment

I also think useless items should be removed from the game. But at any rate I've gotten to the point where I've completely tired of identifying items at all and just set the birth option to have everything IDed from the start.Dungeon crawling is a messy affair. Which is why it is way better to do it digitally!Comment
