The 'Esc' Button Isn't Working Correctly Anymore

I've been playing Angband for several years and am currently using version 3.06. For whatever reason the 'esc' key no longer works correctly. I don't know if it's a setting within Angband that I unintentionally changed, but something isn't right.

Going into more detail, I just tried to create a new character. I clicked "new" and then clicked the "=" button followed by '6' to choose my own attributes (STR, INT, etc) for the character. It's how I always set up characters. Anyway, after doing that and giving the character a name (and saving it), I then press the 'Esc' key so that I can change some of the game-play modes (like show depth in feet, auto-scum, change hit-point warning, etc). I've done it like that many times... But this time after initially creating the character and giving it a name, when I clicked the 'Esc' key, nothing happens - and I'm not done setting up the game how I want it to play. And I can't get back to the menu. Something has changed and I can no longer do what I want. Please help. Thank you.

The options were always on the "=" key, not on the esc key.

Yeah, you're right. I just created another character and it seemed to work fine this time. I'm not sure what happened anymore. I obviously know that certain keys do certain things, but yesterday (before posting my original message) it seemed like something wasn't working right. But as I said, I tried again and things seem to be okay now. My concern was that I've been having some computer problems recently and I was afraid that my game had gotten corrupted. I'll keep an eye on it.
