Hi guys. I am actually playing ToME 2.3.5. on my android tablet! Woohoo! This is the right place to ask questions about it or am I supposed to go somewhere else? (Considering the whole board is nearly filled with ToME 4 topics...)

Anyway, here are some questions.
I decided to try downloading the windows version and so far I'm facing a few problems on both the android and the windows version.
1) How do I get my lists of choices to be displayed automatically without having to press "*"? In the windows version the options are actually displayed in a subwindow which I make display inventory/equipment, but this list doesn't automatically provides me with information if I were say, casting a spell and choosing from my spell list.
2) On windows only (version 2.3.5 Win): Why does the ASCII graphics seem to be bugged? My character "@" sometimes leaves behind a trail when I'm moving around (it already happens in towns). This is worse in dungeons - where I encounter other bugs such as being sometimes unable to see a whole column of stone blocking my way.
3) Is there a way to get the map to scroll with my character as he moves around? Sangband had an option that allowed me to change this and I'm a little unused to the lack of centering.
4) On windows only: Another graphical bug I have with ASCII is that I don't see the . that usually dot the empty spaces on the map (representing dirt or grass). Again this doesn't happen if I use 'new tiles'
5) On windows: Is there a way to 'zoom in' on the map without increasing tile size or font? The map just seems really really small compared to the letters used to display my character information in the same window on the left of the map. Attempting to tweak the font or the tile width/height leads to those information (and other text, e.g. in the "?" screens or option screens to become widely spaced and very difficult to read. -
It's not that we don't like you , but there aren't that many 'serious' ToME player here at oook. You might be better off looking for a ToME exclusive forum and asking there.www.mediafire.com/buzzkill - Get your 32x32 tiles here. UT32 now compatible Ironband and Quickband 9/6/2012.

Try here under the 2.x.x heading. With regard to your specific questions, the only one I can answer for you immediately is (3). To centre the map on the player press '=' to bring up Options then press '4' to bring up Efficiency Options. Press 'y' on the last option on that screen then Escape a few times to get back to the game screen and you should be all set.Comment

Thanks Malice. I tried it and it works. I can't believe I missed it earlier. I also managed to fix the ASCII graphical bugs. Apparently there's an option called "Bizarre graphics" toggling it fixes/brings back the issue. So 2) and 3) have both been solved.
The rest however... I really can't seem to find a currently active forum/thread in which people are discussing this version of the game =(Comment

Check the forums at te4.org- the main ToME 2 developer's new project is ToME 4 and t-engine 4. There are subforums for ToME 2 and the not-finished ToME 3.
The old ToME forums were temporarily over-run with spam, so a ToME subforum was added here. ToME 4 is no longer really an Angband variant, but DarkGod still announces the new releases here.Comment

Yup- ToME 4 is pretty slick these days, but I'd say it would still be worth exploring ToME 2 sometime. There are some pretty cool things there, not only the rough Tolkien background, but some interesting classes. I always liked the Demonologist and the Thaumaturgist.Comment

Development on Tome 2 stopped before Vista came into common usage and before Windows 7 came out IIRC. These operating systems changed how the fonts are used. Anyways, the workaround I know is to go to the font-win.prf file and comment out the lines ending with "0x1F" for the floor tiles and the lines ending with "0x7F."
On my Windows 7 install I only needed to comment out the floor tiles, my brother's Vista machine needed both. My XP install works fine with no tweaks.
Make sure you have the latest official ToME release (2.3.5) or this may break the "~" menus. Also note that wall tiles will be displayed as "#" after the fix but that shouldn't really bother you if you're sufficiently old-school.

Heck, at work I play with only half my screen and I still do fine. That's where I get most of my playing in. No free time for the married and you have a lot of downtime in tech support.Comment
