    interface windows

I've seen in screenshots extra windows for things like inventory, combat rolls, etc., but there aren't any when I play Sil myself and I don't know how to activate them. Is there a way? I'm playing on Linux.

Maybe this is an Angband-y thing that all Angband players know by default. I don't play any other Angbands so I'm a bit clueless here.

Menu > Window > Bizarre Display > tick and untick as desired.

If it doesn't work, maybe it's different on Linux? I am on Windows 10.

What menu? If you mean the one that you get to by pressing esc, I don't see 'Window' as an option in it. If you mean one from a menubar across the top of the window, I don't have any menubar. Yes, I guess things are a bit different in linux....

I meant this. So I guess on Linux it's different or impossible.

I seem to recall having to kill a lot of extra sub-windows when I do a fresh install and start my first character in Sil because I prefer your current layout -- just one big playfield screen. If it isn't too much of a hassle see if a fresh install defaults to having sub-windows available? Seems like a longshot but I thought I'd throw that out there.

I've gotten it working satisfactorily in Ubuntu, I just followed the makefile instructions, added an animation delay from ingame, and I launch from a shell file that I certainly didn't write myself, and probably came with the install tar. Rummage around for a .sh file.

If not, I've attached my one, but it uses relative directories and I've changed all the windows sizes and placements so you'll need to twiddle with it. And of course set as executable and optionally rename to .sh.

You can have up to 8 windows. See the silx script in the zip file.

For x11 builds, start sil as follows for 8 windows,

                ./sil -mx11 -- -n8
