The invisible bird

I got killed (again) because I met that bird that somehow makes me not see enemies.

The scene was shown after I got killed where I had an orc I couldn't see on one side and the bird on top of me.

I couldn't hit anything, I couldn't go anywhere.

How does this enemy work?

Presumably a shadow bat. It's got a darkness radius & moves erratically (like the wolves). If you've got enough light you'll be able to see it (it reduces your light radius). Taking it in a lit room will help. Keen senses or listen helps. Dropping glowing items on the floor will help (for instance gondolin would of been glowing for the orc, so if you had 2 gondolin weapons 1 in the hand & one on the floor would be 2 extra light). I'll often shoot them, you can spot their position in a lit room as it is the centre of a darkness radius.

Yes, shadow bats are bad news, especially coming from a roost with other high-evasion birds. They're the first place where extra light really helps, as does (do?) keen senses.
Other options:
Song of the trees
Shining arrows/light staff
Floor objects (minor jewels; Feanorian lamp if you are lucky)

I was only at 150ft (I'm a beginner and that's the deepest I've been); do these birds appear at places so shallow?

That's a gorcrow then. It hits to blind. You'll recover sight after a bit (or you can use !true sight if you have it). They're not too bad with high melee or evasion (you can still hit them blind). A bit of a sneaky trick is to fight them with the gorcrow in a doorway. If it blinds you, keep pressing (c)lose. It'll default to attacking if it's there & shut the door if it's not.

also, will helps you resist status effects; a point or two at this point in the game is fairly cheap.

As a general tip, it sounds like you got surrounded in the corridor as well. Gorcrows aren't too bad alone, but being surrounded gives bonuses to all the enemies around you. It really makes a huge difference. Be careful of where you fight, and try to be aware of where monsters are on the level.
