    Different Character Archetypes?

I've played Sil on and off now for a couple of years.

I never got much deeper than 400 on my own. I watched some of silstreamer's videos and learned how to play the Flanking/Heavy Armor Archetype...

I am wondering: what are some archetypes that you love to play? I am really interested in trying various styles of this game, but I don't want to puzzle out effective character designs ... mostly because I still haven't beat the game!

    Here's ones I know of/have played:

    *Flanking/Heavy Armor melee fighter
    *Artisan start melee character
    *Smithing

My two other favorites are polearms-specialists (that try to forge really light great spears for big crits) and fencers (stealthy or straight melee, I enjoy both.)

More frustrating but one I'll still play occasionally is a high-str dwarf or Hador that uses warhammers 2-handed, it's so fun. I recently won a dwarf like this, but I cheated in a strong custom artefact warhammer right from the start.

I used to play a fair number of stealth chargers that snuck around with big weapons also.

I don't really like pacificist builds, but others here seem to do quite well with them.

In my Sil heydays, I (Hugo) was the one who patented the Charge tactic until half nerfed it as well as wielding the Greatsword at every opportunity I found one

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

This was my favourite thing to do too! Well, I still do it (my winner in 1.3 took Charge and hit things with a Greatsword)

I think everyone did it, it was so overpowered. I used to even take it on archers as it pretty much gave you a free pass through the first few levels.

Fencer with target of 40 evasion by the throne room is fun too

Cool... what's a fencer build look like?

Is this ideal for going toe-to-toe in narrow hallways? Do you take crowd fighting in case you get flanked?

I am guessing it's almost no armor, super high evasion dump with finesse right?

And I've definitely played around with charge characters, although never fully committed to that style! I am guessing sprint is really good with charge?

I almost always sought Crowd Fighting, personally. As for the other pros, they have their ways.

Regarding 'fencers', they tend to go for high evasion with finesse, and light weight weapons. Cruel Blow and an array of other abilities within that tree were huge for those specializing with light-weapons.

Sprinting doesn't increase damage per-se when you 'charge' at monsters. But, I literally always pursued Sprinting to hit-and-run. Sprinting and charge (in old versions) plus two-handed weapons were my mainstay playstyle in Sil.

If you look at my Winners (search for HugoTheGreat2011), I focused on those with moderately heavy armor + high Evasion + 2-handed weapon + mix of Concentration/Focused Attack + Opportunist

Sprinting doesn't directly increase damage, but Sprinting + Charge can be timed so you get a free hit, Sprinting + running away can be timed so you get free hits while running away, and Sprinting + Flanking can let you attack at 1.5x speed, like a faux potion of quickness. Very slept on ability with lots of synergies.

It doesn't take very long from GAME START to get that Sprinting ability
