    Greetings!

    Hi everyone!

Sil lover here ... not very good at the game, but getting better (thanks in large part to silstreamer's youtube vids)

When I was really young I played a game called umoria (has anyone played? you go down to kill the Balrog instead of get a Sil)... later on played some Angband, DungeonCrawl, Dwarf Fortress

    I have never beat one.

Furthest down I've gotten has been 750', usually i get trapped by a mob and murdered around 400 or so.

Anyway... I really look forward to reading these forums, learning new strategies, and talking about Sil!

I used to play uMoria on my Amiga before continuing my journey through Angband, ToME, FA and Sil.

If you download NPPangband it's got NPPMoria in it, which is an attempt to recreate the old Moria with a newer interface, I haven't tried it out yet myself so not sure how well it plays.

Sort of. I downloaded a version of Moria that I played on my phone. Reached the Balrog for the first time and got splatted

Moria was what addicted me to roguelikes when I was around 12, or so. When I was playing a lot of roguelikes in the mid 00's 'cause I was working reference in a very sleepy library on campus, I downloaded Umoria and finally beat it after several tries. I used a half-orc rogue who managed to hoard enough invulnerability potions to see the Balrog done.

I'm not sure what the differences are between the Moria I played at 12 and Umoria at 28 or so, but it looked and felt identical.

Compared to Angband and variants, replaying the old Moria feels very, sparse. Not many monsters, the shops often have only 1 or none of what you need (identify scrolls, WoR, restore). I downloaded NPP's Moria and played a little but it seemed too different for me to choose it over actual Moria.
              You are on something strange
