I'm eagerly awaiting an update but I fear it may be next year before any information is released on it or before it is released

Is it only through finding "special" weapons that I can get the "bane" of creatures eg troll-bane

We don't usually get any news of future updates, and we've only ever gotten major versions on January 3rd. There was talk that after monster abilities were implemented, maybe getting the tiles working would be next. Who knows.

Half and scatha don't communicate much these days, last we really heard was that Half had had a kid, and working on Sil was a lower priority.

Every variant gets its last update at some point. Look at Tome 2.3.5. Similar popularity to Sil, even.

To answer your second question, 'bane' is a perception ability -- when you take it, it will ask you to pick the specialization you want.

Trolls have knock-back, Orc Warriors have charge, Morgoth sings, and cats have exchange places. Things like that. Used to be that monsters just hit you. I think this was added in 1.2?
