Can you go back up once you get to Morgoth's floor?

I've not played for a while and gave 1.21 a bash today and am thoroughly enjoying it. Chasms help dive quickly, but there seems less experience around when playing stealthy characters or at least it seems that way from what I remember from last time I played.

Anyway I went down to the bottom floor comically unprepared to do anything other than expecting to be able to wander back up after scouting for loot. I guess it isn't possible anymore (I seem to remember being able to do this before). If that's the case I guess poor Fingor is completely doomed unless anyone has some advice:

I never actually tried, but I suppose you always needed a Silmaril to get out. Then poor Fingor would be doomed. I bet last time you played stealthy you weren't at 1000' in less than 3000 turns (seeing, identifying more).

Heh I just checked my last games and the quickest I got to 1000ft before was 6,500 turns previously so yes I did take considerably longer before.

I had a look at the change notes and saw you don't get double experience for encountering uniques and artifacts anymore so I think that also put a dent in the exp collection a bit too.

Another alternative would be to pick up the Crown. If you want to try this, you really, really need very high STR (like 8 or higher) in order to even pick it up.
My best try at PosChengband 7.0.0's nightmare-mode on Angband.live:

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

You can't pick up the crown while it is on a certain head. (No song, no will char.)

Plus he's got 0 str & no str potions. Just looking at the character I can't see much you can do except answer your own question by trying the stairs.

Nope couldn't go back up, so wandered about on the floor for ages trying to get enough experience to take on Morgoth, but there was only really 2,000 or so available. Strangely nothing noticed me marching about for ages picking up anything of value.

A small part of the level was blocked by a sleeping cat warrior so I tried to coax him away but he inevitably killed me.

Anyway it was still really fun:

A couple of questions which I'm wondering about:

Does the charge ability work with assassination? They might work well together if it's possible.

Also what's the deal with shadows? They are just an empty black square even when you know they are there? Makes them very hard to avoid.

I seem to get an error sometimes along the lines of "couldn't construct interesting room" when entering a level.

Edit: It just happened again and I get "Bug: Could not find a record for an Interesting Room in vault.txt"
