Carrying spears around as throwing weapons is cute but they're fucking heavy. Throwing axes still hit a sweet spot where the damage done is good, crits are good and numerous, and you can keep a good number of them without having strength 1billion. I still think they're the "best throwing weapon", which in the end isn't saying much.

We need kryft to fsil this for us

I ran a few simulations and it looks like spears tend to do more damage on average. But if you are a 1-2 strength dwarf, then axes will be more effective than spears for you while fighting low-protection enemies.

Well, they were nerfed to simplify rules as far as I know. I personally prefer spears (especially when facing giants or dragons), but they get more criticals and profit more from good quality (they already have 2d) and momentum. When for other reasons in the game you get momentum (e.g. for not wasting charge bonus with an already strong dwarf) they suddenly are as strong as they used to be, then I use them.

I tend to prefer throwing axes over spears for the longer range & fact there light enough to carry a decent amount. Just took a look & a 1 lb axe at str 3 has a range of 11 which is comparable to a shortbow & with throwing mastery would probably get decent criticals. Then again if I have to smith them myself I'd probably just use 2 lb spears.

hi folks, here I am again.

Found 2(!) "Gauntlets of the Forge (-1) [+0,1d1] <+3>" on 250ft, but took only 1 pair with me as I figured there's no way I could stack their bonus ...

Dropped down to 300ft, replaced that Greatsword with a Bastard Sword of Doriath (found fighting without shield to be rather .. painful ..), slew my first troll in 4 hits - and stumbled upon the next forge.

            It's a 2-use only forge, though.
            What to do now?

            - invest more XP/SP in smithing?
            - what to forge?
            - invest in melee skills?
            - I feel like I could use some more perception, already have troubles finding and opening doors. But how much investment is enough?
            .

No, I don't have a clue 'bout C, and I'm not starting my own variant.
            Never. Ever.

Wow, nice experience stockpile! Man, I'd screw that up so quick... the smithing opportunities are wonderful.

But, about perception, I find an overall 10 skill score in perception to be a nice sweet spot for keen senses or possessing a see invisible item to mostly work. Also, about 5 attack rounds is the longest most fights should take so it's also a good bang-for-your-buck score if you go focus attack and concentration for a potential +10 to attack.
              You are on something strange

Mainly I wouldn't hoard xp at the start of the game, almost everything is better than that. 6k saved with 11k total, wow.
