Sil - it could be the first variant I try

So... ...Sil seems to be mentioned more than most variants these days.

Possibly that's a marketing ploy - I notice "Sil" more easily than <something>band.

Anyway, I've had a gander at

But where can I find a description of Sil written specifically for someone who is familiar with Vanilla, but not Sil/Variants?

Somehow because Sil is a variant, I feel like I'm doing someone a favour by trying it, which I'm sure is an appalling attitude, but may explain why I haven't looked very far for a good Vanilla-oriented description.

Right. The .pdf manual is concise and comprehensively describe all you need to know about how game systems work so long as you are familiar with standard rpg systems and phrases. You can find it on the website or in your unzipped Sil folder.

Other than that game systems and gameplay have very little in common with Angband, so there isn't a whole lot of lessons or insights that carry over between the two I'm afraid.
