Just managaged to kill the big V. Feel pretty accomplished (and in case you're wondering, played most of the session prior to christmas's eve - finished just before bedtime after family pleasantness had been concluded).
I don't keep notes whilst playing, but the short of it is that I roughly followed cloudeds edain build that debo casted - few abilities early, some perception and will as needed, some evasion and lots of melee with early stealth up to the Dex point. Worked like a charm - Stealth in particular is invaluable to avoid surrounds and item-destructing monsters, and the cheap Dex boosting melee/evasion point means it only puts you back a few thousand xp in all.
Itemwise I found a very early Feanorian Lamp, early-ish Barahir, Taur-nu-Fuin, some good helm swaps and not awhole lot else (smashing stuff with some quality plain 2-handers for the most part). Finally found Glamdring in the late middlegame and just rolled that, 2d5 mail corslet of constitution and a d7 kite shield of rFire for the longest time. Debated whetehr I should just wear a rFire ring, drop the shield and try to kill V with a Subtlety setup when the last 950' provided me with Anguirel, Saitnar and Durin just lying around on the floor. Nice. Collected, spent my 10k experience pool on speccing for 2-handers and the rest was kind of easymode from there on out.
Do note Death's Sting and the unpronouncable arrow as well (not that I used archery all that much after bumbling into my endgear but still) and the Cerebrimbor/Feanor combo - I guess this character could conceivably be stronger with a better Amulet (more Con would've been welcome) or abusing the shit out of Song of Mastery or whatever, but other than that I think I found the best equipment possible for just about any combat build conceivable, smiths and archers included. Just goes to show it's better to be lucky than good I guess =). //Bragging
EDIT: Hold on, just notived a distressing dearth of YASD/YAVP posts on this forum. Is the ladder in place to prevent such clutter? Have I transgressed grievously on implicated codes of conduct? Did I err? ..Oops.
EDIT EDIT: Ladder post. Does save some space compared to the [CODE] brackets it would seem.
