    Quick questions

Playing a (less glaive more spear) polearm user now.

Would you go for the easier hit (attack modifier) or the easier critical hit (about 2 lb less weight) on a great spear (of Doriath)? I am not sure whether I am right in consistently choosing the lighter weapon.

Is there a way to show the last message in game, I regularly miss the message from self knowledge staff, because I am habitually dismissing (manually) messages and feel silly afterwards?

Re messages: don't you have a separate window with the latest messages? It's handy, and I think it's the default at least on Linux (when running the game via silx).

Using light great spears is entertaining but sort of casino-ish for my taste... damrolls will be like "1, 4, 3, 42!" Glaives do more consistent damage and that can be useful in e.g. estimating how long you'll take to mop up a current threat when there's another one making itself known the horizon.

Ok, the char died to a deathblade at 600', I had a glaive for critical resisting enemies, but was mainly using great spear of doriath at that point and had no problem with Easterlings (incl. Ulfang). Quite often you find those slaying (great) spears that are simply amazing against their dedicated targets (that's why i like the spear of Boldog very much).

I was fishing for bonus melee with focus, concentration, master hunter on a 2 4 4 4 Finarfin with reasonably high perception. With focus most likely the 42 is your first attack, as soon as you get knockback most attacks will be with focus and then 1vs1 combat should reliably produce single or even double critical hits.

Can I get the assassination on the free polearm attack? I would be tempted to do a "waiting assassin" then.

That's pretty clever. Waiting in the open has its risks I guess, but would be an efficient way to get your focus up without having to mess around with passing-then-attacking...

According to the manual it does work on controlled retreat but apparently not on polearm mastery attack (or the polearm mastery attack counts as normal attack anyway, but I don't know).
