A feature of Sil that I like a lot is the very quick flashing of the damage inflicted when you hit a monster. This damage number is conveniently color-coded (green for poison, brown for knockback/confusion, red for anything else, if I am not missing anything).
A possible improvement would be adding a special color for when a killing blow is dealt (for instance, using red for killing blows and switching to yellow for normal damage). Sometimes, especially when dealing with fast monsters or when my light radius is 1 in the early game, it is not clear if I have killed a monster or it just fled out of my light radius. To do that, I have to check the verb used in the messages, which breaks flow, or even recall on screen the previous messages.
I realize it is only a very minor inconvenience, but this would be a good improvement in my opinion.
