    Sil-Q Let's Play series

I've been thinking about doing a Let's Play series about Sil-Q for a while, because there isn't really any recent content out there specifically about learning the game. I finally went ahead and made some videos-- so far I've posted three, and the fourth will be up on the channel on 2/24/2022. Here is the channel link:

Feel free to check them out if you are interested. The first three videos go through a fair bit of explanation of the mechanics, while future videos will likely be more focused on gameplay.

I think it's worth noting that I'm not an expert at Sil-Q, as I'm sure is evident in the videos; I'm just an enthusiast. I hope some people can find them helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, information like this is very welcome. Looking at characters on the ladder is good for seeing how people choose abilities and equipment, but it's not often clear how they progressed. I look forward to some later videos where you get deeper into the dungeon. If you stay motivated to continue I'd really like to see a winner.

I was interested to see just how much you use the stairs, that's something quite different from Angband play. It was also instructive to me to see how you used the entire skill tree.

Thanks for watching! I know that these videos will not get many views, but it helps to know that there are at least some people out there that find them useful.

I've definitely had the same thought about the character files on the ladder. Hugo also uploads videos of himself playing Sil-Q, might be worth checking out. He is a better player and could provide some contrast. Although he does play like an ax-wielding maniac most of the time. His Youtube channel is HugoVirtuoso (looks like it's called MidgardVirtuoso in some places as well).

I do hope to get a win on camera at some point. There are a lot of different kinds of characters that I want to try, one of them will have to win at some point right? Maybe?

Yeah pretty cool. I've only watched the 1st so far. Always enjoy watching a pacifist run, different players always play them differently. I tend to play them super cautiously and carefully, where you were just, "meh if they spot me I'll run". Its interesting.

That lamoth bow was a bit of bad luck. There's a bit of a trick here if you're paying attention. A lot of the monsters spotting you were "aggresive" instead of "confident" which tells you something you've equipped has Aggravation on it.

I find it really interesting to see how different people interact with roguelikes as well. There is certainly a huge amount of variance. I think it has to do a lot with what you are looking for from the games, but also by how that person handles problems in general to some extent.

I should certainly have noticed the bow of lammoth. To be fair, it is very difficult to pay attention while I am also talking, but to be less fair I may well have not noticed even if I was playing on my own without talking.

In either case, thanks for watching! I do plan to play some Edain pacifist games, so that might be more interesting for you to see than the current videos.

Apologies if I misheard, but I thought I heard you, on video 5, drop something from your full inventory so you could get something off the ground and eat it. I believe you can E(at) things directly off the ground, as well as wield or use them.

Thanks for pointing this out! It's funny, although I know that using items from the floor is a thing that you can do in some roguelikes, it never even occurred to me to see if you can do it in Sil. I guess it's easy to just get stuck in your ways. I will mention it in the next video that I record.
