[Angband 3.5.1] An old squelch bug has crept back in

During the 3.5 dev phase, a squelch bug crept in and was quashed, but it has apparently revived itself in 3.5.1.

Example 1: Squelching gloves of free action used to be "excellent with no high resists" but is now "all non-artifact".

Example 2: Squelching "average" shots and pebbles squelches "good" shots and pebbles (e.g., Mithril Shots (2d4) (+5,+5) get squelched as "average").
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

That's interesting, because I've used the quality squelch to squelch "average" weapons and armor. From time to time, I see things, pick them up, and ID them. As soon as I know what they are, they are squelched. Sometimes, I think to myself, "Those looked a little better than average - but I guess the number crunching back end knows what it's doing."

I don't THINK that I've lost anything that was actually valuable to me, because I've already found very good armor and weapons. But, mithril boots looked better than iron shod boots of stability. That would have been a judgement call of course. Since I had arbitrarily decided that I didn't want to see average, I just assumed that average mithril boots would be no improvement over stability.

    Now - I'm less certain.

"Average" means "isn't enchanted any higher than normal". For most items that means it has a +0 bonus; the only exception is dragon scale mail, which has a +10 bonus by default, but that still qualifies as "average".

Mithril boots are just a slightly fancier base item type; if they don't have any enchantment then they're still just average mithril boots. They might be better than magical sandals, of course. But I'd rather have boots with an ability (like rNexus from Stability boots) than the marginally higher AC from mithril boots.

Ditto here - rNexus is high value, a little more AC not so valuable.

I'll slow down a little, and try to see what's being squelched in the future - I'm just not sure what I may or may not have lost. I do remember seeing something about "magical" then squelch - but only wondered what it was when it was to late!
