Now you can throw or ignore the items while looking at them in inventory, but what happened to simply dropping? Now you have to get out of the inventory view and then drop the item.

Well, it was fixed in dev 519, then un-fixed in dev 522. Can't drop when looking at an item in inventory or equipment, requiring the extra steps of taking off, exiting the inventory view, then dropping.
