    Misadventures in non-launching games

    I got burned a couple of days ago (took note of a mechanical change that takkaria recommended to APWhite, that was consistent with this stage of the testing process).

    So...proceeded to do a big-bang conversion and then found myself faced with an executable that "hung" at 784K RAM usage.

    Code:
    hg revert .
    No effect. Hmm...what's changed....everything's low-plausibility....
    * Windows Update has cycled
    * new printer driver
    * used copy /Y angband.exe .. rather than move /Y angband.exe .. for final stage

    Zaiband does have the WinAPI to nonblocking font registration from blocking, so that isn't it.

    I come back to this two days later (and two reboot cycles into Linux and back). Do a test open before starting on the above.

    It works. (???)

    I'm proceeding with caution appropriate to my icon this time, so if something goes pear-shaped again I don't lose the whole changeset.
    Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
    Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)
    Z.C++: pre-alpha C/C++ compiler system (usable preprocessor). Also on Hg. Z.C++ 0.0.10 ETA December 31 2011

    Angband uses git, not mercurial.

      I finished the purge of C_MAKE and MAKE macros from Zaiband this morning.

      But I still have no idea what kind of OS-configuration weirdness would freeze up a *band on launch, yet go away after enough reboots.
