Destruction destroys artifacts

I just had to use the spell destruction to get rid of a mass of summoned enemies and all artifacts were destroyed too.

This is somewhat new, since when are artifacts destroyed by destruction?

That's one of the changes in the nightlies. It removes the "destruct the vault" exploit if nothing else.

Though it seems earthquakes are also capable of destroying artifacts, which I like less well. I lost Morgoth's crown because I didn't pick it up before I started playing with Grond.

That should not happen. Destruction and Earthquake call different functions. As far as I can tell, the earthquake function was not changed. I'm investigating this though.

edit: could not reproduce this...Tried specifically with the crown in addition to other artifacts.

What is the current status on the scroll of *Desctruction* Does it destroy enemies and artifacts around me?

So far as I know, it hasn't changed recently, so it should still destroy everything in the area except for permanent walls.

If it hasn't changed then it doesn't destroy artifacts.

[edit] read thread from start. Seems to be that destruction wipes out artifacts in dev version. There goes the usage for that spell.

I believe it doesn't destroy artifacts, but just removes them from the level. They are not lost, and can be generated again.

This does mean that the strategy of destructing an area and then picking up the artifacts doesn't work, but it still works fine as an escape or for crowd control (or to get rid of troublesome uniques).

If the artifacts were marked LOST in the log then it is a bug.

Seeing as I never relied on destruction to remove monsters while leaving artifacts, but do still find it to be a useful last-ditch escape (better even than Teleport Level), the spell is definitely still useful.
