    NOFLAVOR flag ?

The NOFLAVOR flag is used in Angband/64 for objects that have no 'flavor text'. I think that approach may be less 'hackish' than using defines like SV_FOOD_MIN_SHROOM.
    Currently turning (Angband) Japanese.

I think the least hackish way to deal with them would be to make a new sval just for mushrooms, and then there's no need for a flag or the hardcoded indexes.

Completely different subject, but I've just realized that I've fallen foul of the 'armor <> armour' problem.

Is Vanilla Angband nicely consistent with that, I wonder?

No, but I tend towards using the British spelling.
