this game is stealing tiles, lol

long time no see, yeah yeah.

    See here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz8ch_3HjEc

go about 11 minutes in, there's two tile images 100% stolen from angband.
I have no idea what the copyright is on those and they are probably stolen from other sources in the first place, but those are absolu-bonka-lutely Angband Shockbolt tiles.

You buy this from Steam right? Then I suppose he paid for the tiles, because if you look at the copyright file in Angband, then this applies:

The Shockbolt Angband 64x64/128x64 tileset is copyright (C) Raymond Gaustadnes 2012. It can be found in the file lib/tiles/shockbolt/64x64.png.

    Permission is granted to:

use the tileset with in-development and released versions of Angband
distribute and make copies of the tileset with in-development and released versions of Angband, as long as no fee is charged for it
incorporate tiles designed by the author for variants of Angband and use and distribute them with Angband under the terms above

    Permission is not granted to:

modify the tileset without the author’s permission.
incorporate tiles designed for ToME that do not appear in the Angband tileset.
use or distribute the tileset with other games or projects. If you want to use and distribute the tileset with other games or projects, you must obtain explicit permission from the author. Non-commercial games or projects may be granted permission to use them, and if so, use will be allowed as long as the game or project remains non-commercial. To use them in commercial games, a non-exclusive licence must be acquired from the author.

So a legal loophole is that if you declare your game to be a variant of Angband then you can use his tiles?

That does seem to be the case, since the website says:

About graphics similarity with another game ToME4:

We purchased and used a tileset of monsters/items from the Norwegian artist Raymond E. Gaustadnes (Shockbolt). He made another tileset for ToME4. So, both tilesets share the similar style and a few same tiles.
(The fact that it’s on steam wasn’t a guarantee that they weren’t swiping art, but they aren’t.)

As long as the game/variant is totally free/no income from sales/ads/micro transactions and similar, anyone may use the Shockbolt tileset, when it's a game with income from sales or otherwise, I only ask for a one time fee of USD 250.
