    Comp 209

For the new version of PosChengband we're playing an unwon race (balance drake) with an unwon school of magic (domination). And we have permanent aggravation.

    Sounds like a balanced competition.

I just noticed that Compo 209 is not available on Angband.live...is that because of the recording issue? (The fact that it's not available via Angband.live should NOT change it from continuing as the current competition.)

      Edit -
Nevermind. Gwarl (on Angband.live) says Compo 209 will be available on Angband.live.

Aggravation plus domination realm? Ouch, that's a nasty combo.

AFAIK aggravation makes charm spells (a lot of what Domination does) fail, and it makes the Cult of Personality effect far worse -- about half of affected summons just get turned friendly instead of becoming pets, but aggravate will immediately turn those friendlies right back into enemies.

NOTE: Playing this mode will overwrite your poschengband savefile. To continue a competition run, choose poschengband 7 from the game menu.

And Gwarl, can you please email me my current PCB 7.0 savefile on Angband.live...Yes, it's crashy, I know. Email it to me at YggdrasilTid@gmail.com I want a copy of it so that I can give it to Chris to check out. I might be putting any further PCB 7.0 Angband.live attempts on the backburner until I get a copy of crashy save.

This just took the sinister aspect of PosChengband to a whole new level!

Hey, I get this error when loading Competition 209 on the webserver:
                Code:
execvp(3) failed.: No such file or directory
                What's up with that?

Apparently, once I "play" Compo 209, it then replaces the PCB 7.0 savefile right away? Is that right/

yeah the error wasn't intended but doesn't really matter. Trying to play comp 209 loads your savefile into poscheng 7, meaning it is possible to play the competition, which is all I was going for this time round.

At the 'C'haracter screen use the pipe symbol | (shift+\)

                          Gwarl,

The HTML character dumps are reporting turn count differently from the txt dumps on the competition 209 web page.

Also, the parameters for determining the winner of this competition are not defined. Winner in least (turns?). Or if or winner, most experience/(turn?)? I'm happy with other parameters, but it would be nice to know and adapt play style accordingly.

The html vs txt thing is a problem with the ladder - it was present in the last poschengband competition until Pav fixed it.

If you name your dump .txt at the end, poschengband will know and format the dump appropriately.

Same rules as in all previous competitions - winner in the least number of turns. If no winner, best experience/turn.

Just a note, not "all previous competitions" had the same rules for winner. E.g., Hobbit comp won by PwrWyrm was the winner with the LEAST experience, regardless of turncount.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”
