Comp 171 is up -- it's Neoband 0.8.1, played as you like it!

We just did one of these for 0.7.1 recently, but Therem Harth has made a bunch of balance changes that would be good to experience, and I basically assume 90% of people are going to be playing the V 4.0 beta or the crawl tourney anyways. So, GLHF

I think we should do it before v4.0beta gets too polished and takes the random element of fun out of it.

Found a minor bug - Assassins learn Corrosion before Shadow Portal. Not huge, since Corrosion is too expensive to cast when first learned, but it makes the menu ugly. I'll fix that in the next version.

Edit: and a major bug: Assassins also learn Withering at the same level as Shadow Portal. Yeeouch! That is not balanced.

could you post a quick overview of the classes? i couldnt find any reference about them :-)

Warrior -> a Vanilla warrior. Has stronger melee than anything else, but no magic.

Pyromancer -> Uses fire-based magic. Weak melee and low hitpoints.

Avatar -> Smug priests who rely on magical buffs for melee.

Sapper -> Use explosion-based magic. All offense, nothing else.

Reaper -> Creepy life-stealing warriors, who get HP and SP boosts for killing things.

Assassin -> Use magic that helps them sneak around and poison things. Okay melee.

Shieldmaiden -> Use Earth-magic. Melee almost as good as a warrior.

Sniper -> Sneaks around and shoots things, and has spells to aid in such. Bad at melee, amazing with ranged weapons.

setting the no_selling option at birth starts a character with no gold and empty inventory. that means no light source for the first trip down the stairs, which is pretty rough :-(

No gold?! My characters started with 600 GP when no-sell was enabled. What other options did you enable?
