Competition 153

While much delayed, I've finally gotten around to starting this character. I'm enjoying my first time in this variant! I'm also only level 6 and will doubtless be frothing in rage shortly. I can't wait!

It's pretty bare-bones, but it's up there now (http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=15718).

I'm adventuring through the top few floors of Camelot. I'm starting to see cave orcs, so it's still quite early.

I'm set up to stream easily, so if there are people around on text or voicechat I'd gladly broadcast. Triply so if they know a few things about this game.

Ok, bad news...

My Merle 111 save file got corrupted with NO backups available. Apparently, I went to the bottom-screen-most deep water to look for Fastiticalon. But then, I somehow triggered a gruesome probably because I went out-of-boundaries of the world map? Actually, the panic save triggered. But, now I cannot open the savefile anymore.

See if you guys can open this savefile.

Otherwise, I have to start over again...

Sucks! I can't make anything out of that file. You sure it was not a level up present from Slaanesh? I'd *almost* not be surprised if it was.

Slaanesh has nothing to do with this at all. Again, the *nasty* bug occurred when I approached the screen boundary to the southern-most part of the world map.

So my first competition character starved (oops). I'm messing around with more competition characters and some all-random ones too, just for funsies. I'm really enjoying exploring this new variant, but I also must reiterate debo's wish for accessible spoiler docs, doubly so because savefiles don't retain monster memory across lives. From what I've read, to get spoilers would require looking and Zangband and Hengband spoilers plus the PosChengband changelog...

PosChengand's debug and wizard modes are not accessible at all, FYI. Probably for a good reason, as far as I can tell.

In the sense that it would be unstable, or that you disapprove of the gameplay choice of players who use them?

I don't disapprove players using them. But, early access to the debug features can diminish the fun, imo. But then, there should be more straightforward means (all inclusive, such oook.cz spoilers section) to finding out spoilers for monster like the Elder storm giant.

Hugo, I sent you a "fixed" savefile where I simply walked your character back to town. Stay away from the wilderness edge!

I also uploaded a patched Windows executable here. This is not a new release, just a rebuilt 3.0.5 executable which you can copy over the current one for the comp. Finally, the source patch is available on the develop branch or here.

A *HUGE* thanks to Chris for fixing my Merle 111 (Compo 153) savefile. Because of this, I am back to Compo 153 contention

I noticed that my active Compo 153 character (Merle 111) has a higher unique count than clouded's top Merle, yet mine is ranked lower. Bug?
