It's been awhile since the last DaJAngband competition, and there's a brand new release with considerably less bugs than previous DAJ versions that had a competition (of course I always think that when I make a release, but I like to think I'm improving).
Once before I had a poll to chose the class and race of the comp character and felt like doing it again (because I'm not a good decision-maker).
Here are the choices: (the first two choices were brought back from the previous DAJ comp poll)
Murkum the Dark Elf Assassin - Assassin class is pretty similar to the rogue: slightly weaker in most ways, but stronger with magic, especially offensive magic. (black magic realm) Get to use some other interesting spells like drain charges and beam of destruction. Their early 'step into darkness' spell which grants darkvision will be useful for cavern levels (which at the moment, are always dark).
Arthur the Human Tourist - For those who want a tough challenge. Tourists have some of the worst fighting skills of any class, but I think they'll be fun if you don't mind taking risks. Their magic is mostly divination/detection or random-effect spells. Warning: the tourist class has not been tested beyond the early game.
Peskon the Hobglib Alchemist - The alchemist class has some interesting spells including tunneldigging, enhance wand, mimmic wand, and craft grenade, though early on they tend to use stinking cloud a lot. (As an added bonus, this character is named after a character from a novel I wrote who was a hobglib alchemist.)
EdderinEbbs the Dunadan Druid - The ideas for several of the nature-realm spells came from OAngband. Just the ideas and the names for some of them, though, not the exact effects. I've only tried the druid class a couple times and it could use some love.
- I don't like playing with disconnected stairs, but I'll give in and have the stairs be disconnected for this comp since that's the competition standard. I've at least gotten so I can stand playing with disconnected stairs.
EDIT: I have emailed Nick the savefile. I can't figure out how to end the poll early, but any more votes aren't going to have much effect.
