Right, so where to head to? I've found the world map, but judging by past character dumps, there are quite a few fixed quests worth attempting at some point. Head straight for a Proper Dungeon or off questing first?

I don't know what level the competition character is, but I have played a bit of Heng so maybe this will help*. My usual itinerary is something like this:
-> Start in Outpost
Thieves Quest
Warg Quest
Clear Yeek Caves
-> Go to Angband
Level 6 Quest
-> Go to Telmora
Sewer Quest
-> Go to Angwil
Orc Camp
-> Go to Angband
Level 12 Quest
-> Go to Angwil
Doom Quest I
-> Go to Telmora
Fight in the Arena until you kill the Ogre Shaman and get the ?Acquirement
-> Go to the Dark Caves
Step inside, read ?Acq, get out quick
You may need to level up a bit in Angband before taking on the next batch of quests:
-> Go to Outpost
Old Man Willow Quest
-> Go to Telmora
Vapor Quest
-> Go to Morivant
Mimic's Treasure
Tengu & Death Swords
Well that should get you started...
*Note that I haven't played wilderness mode in a long while. Also, there are several lurkers on this forum who are much much more experienced with Heng than I am, so they may have better advice.
EDIT: Oh, great, the character is level 18. Most of that is water under the bridge already. Maybe I'll look at the save file!
EDIT2: OK, new recommendation: go to Telmora. Fail the Vault quest. Accept the Tower quest. Scum the Tower for a while; this is done by entering the quest, killing what you can, and leaving again. You won't fail the quest by leaving. You can gain some levels and some loot this way.Last edited by Djabanete; November 7, 2009, 23:22. -
I think it should be noted that you only have to actually "go", as in walk there the first time. Later you can recall to any dungeon of choice you've been before from any town (no need to walk there again) , and you can travel from town to town with one of the NPC servicesComment
