Some runs let you run and gun

It all started off with finding a 1d8 dagger on DL2 branded with cold (+2, +2). My Half-troll Paladin was off to a great start. Then Smeagol dropped some free action and blindness protection <+2> Dexterity gloves on DL14; he never drops artifacts or anything good for me. Yay! So then I see Agent of Saruman on DL16 and think maybe he will also drop an artifact, but I know this is not good logic, as it's merely fed on my good fortunes from Smeagol, so I don't actually expect anything decent when I step over his drop: The light crossbow 'Gonde' (X3) (+7, +22) You do not know the full extent of this item's power:

    Branded with cold
    Provides immunity to fire
    Grants telepathy.

    wut?

Dang. My poor character still is using ring and amulet for basic resistance, and the only artifact so far is the Phial (and Dagmar, for which I have little use.)
Best finds are Xbow of the Haradrim (+13,13) <+0.5> and right of the Mouse (0,-7) <+4>
Found first FA at DL27, and finally got SI at DL 33 from a hat.
Character is a mage, so early equipment is not so important.

frustratingly though im lacking in real high resist gear...
cant swap out what i currently have for armout because its too valuable in resists for my depth
