Youtube: Debo plays Angband and its variants

    Hi,

A long time ago, I started recording and doing play-play of my Sil games.

After a long hiatus, I've sort of started randomly recording videos again, but my focus is likely going to be on trying many different variants and talking about how they fit into the over Angband variant family picture.

I'm first streaming these on Twitch and then uploading them to YouTube. If you're ever around when I'm streaming, please join me -- I like talking to people while I'm playing, and I could often use the help

I'm not going to change the channel name or anything, but I thought I'd create a new forum topic because the old topic is all about Sil. I thought this would be the most appropriate subforum for it.

I'm not trying to make a living off this or anything, I'm just having fun. I'll continue to post updates here about new videos or changes etc, but if y'all feel like the updates are too frequent, just let me know and I'll stop. (Realistically anyone who's interested should just subscribe to one of the Twitch or YT channels, you get automated notifications that way.)

Recently I've been playing FA (here are the first and second videos of that journey.)

    o/

Debo--haven't played FA in a long time, but giving stuff to the desperate adventurer definitely pays off. It's something like reverse black market prices IIRC.

Its a large chunk of gold. Except when you murder him in his sleep because, well he is not actually marked as neutral...

watched the 2nd one. Recall always takes you to your hometown. 'H' to move your home. At some point you'll want ^I to see where items are if they are under terrain. You'll find things get a lot easier & faster if you can buy/find a staff of perception, a staff of trap detection & a staff of object detection.

Edit:Not sure its still H in the roguelike keys, you might have to check the menu

For rare commands like that, you should use \H in the roguelike keymap and save valuable keyboard real estate for more useful things.

Thanks for the tips, Pete and wobbly!

Anyone have any advice on what to do at the beginning other than grind in Amon Rudh until you can defeat Mim?

Yeah, you've basically got a choice between grinding Amon Rudh or collecting a set of escapes/detects and trying to raid forest maps (this is more natural to something stealthier then dwarf warrior). The good thing about forest maps is, when you phase you're always out of LOS so you can wander round on a dungeon level deeper then you'd normally be able to survive in the open, so the loot is better. It does require being more careful then you are currently playing but if you get bored of grinding then the maps north of Menegroth (SE from angband in the top west corner or west, west then north from Belegost, the 2nd town you found) go up to dlvl 44 & will have much better loot.

Also there's another dungeon Nargothrond to the north then west of Amon Rudh. You don't want to go right to the bottom as you won't be able to avoid the ballyhack, but it does go deeper then Mim if you get stuck trying to collect the resist/speed to kill him.
