    Just Can’t Win...

Playing on and off for many years. On 4.1.2 now (probably should upgrade to 4.1.3).

I get to level 35-40 pretty easy near 50% of the time and dive pretty quick per some guidance here a few years back. Lately killing Kobold Rogues. Spend lots of time ignoring stuff and sneaking around to gear up and mostly think my pace is good.

I think I’ll get there, but am very impressed by many of you who seem to create many winners. Game is so tough to keep focus. Mindless repetitive tasks followed by one or two click insta kills.

Just lost my last KR ~cLVL 35, dLVL 60 to some form of mystic that was only about 1300 EXP whilst I’d was dropping 15k dragons in 3 shots. Bumped into him in a room and before I knew it he summoned 10+ nasties including a dracolisk that finished me with a 200+ breath. Need to recall how scary mystics are. Pretty sure it was poison too which is a tad ironic.

Playing a lot on planes and my seat mates invariably think I’m “coding” or otherwise building things in a very business like manner. Funny.

Anyway, just popping in to vent and should say thanks to Nick and co - game is so solid and such a great challenge.

    Cheers,

    P

Grand Master Mystic (or just Master Mystic) is always a bad idea. They are fast, they hit hard to stun, and they summon a lot of junk. And they have lousy drops and EXP. Avoid them. There are a few other monsters in the list of "never worth while". Off the top of my head:
Horned reaper. Hits brutally hard and has lousy drop. Destroys stuff on the ground
Greater balrog. drains pack, has a ton of HP and is just a pest, even with fire immunity
Higher wyrms: ton of HP, summon dragon, etc. Have big drop, but still--a lot of work for little gain. I suppose if you had a MoD of Gondolin or the like, these might be OK targets.

      Also:
Don't play for long hours, you will get weary and distracted.
      Don't get greedy.
Don't get too self-assured for killing many foes easily, there are always tougher ones around the corner.

NEVER engage horned reapers. I would like to add some uniques like tarrasque and vecna.

If you happen to find a MoD +2 attacks, you can take Vecna, and Tarraque doesn't summon, so a ranger with venom branded arrows can kill it from a distance with attenuated breath damage (similar to Huan and Carcharoth). Mage with chaos strike/nether bolt and cheap stone to mud is another possibility for these three.

Vecna is not too bad for an endgame character & its handy to have him dead. Alive he's constantly annoying, always awake with a long tracking range.

New low for me. Just killed off my latest k-rogue at cLvl 34 Dlvl 50 or so to a death mold! It was blocking me and needed relatively to die and I ran out of arrows with it near death so walked over to smack it a couple times. Not sure if it paralyzed or stunned me in some way but it got in a bunch of consecutive 30ish attacks and ran me from over 200hp to dead.

I already had molds of all kinds on my completely ignore list ;-)

Death Molds have +30 speed and 4 attacks per turn dealing an average of 99 damage per turn if they all hit (max of 182). So...yeah. Don't go near them.

Ouch! And yeah, many have have died to a death mold at one point, tho not usually so deliberately. Teleport other is the correct choice here, if you've got it.
