newb and confused

so i was just play and on at 50f i got a dagger of narthanc it did 100+ damage then i noticed that the damage was going down along with the blows for round why?

also what the max feet is it like 5000f, and are then any more shops on the way down?

Did you have stat drains from red jellies and the like? That would reduce blows per round, and damage per blow. It's also worth noting that Dethanc won't do full damage against all monsters. Some will resist the brand.

5000'' is indeed different from 50'. (Dethanc is useless there, for one thing.)

Morgoth is at 5000' (a.k.a. level 100). Killing him wins the game. There's more dungeon past that point, but nothing new is introduced so most people don't bother exploring it.

The only shops are in the town at the start of the game. You can teleport between the town and your maximum depth using Word of Recall; scrolls with that effect are available for sale at the alchemist.

yeah i saw that it would do more on some.
i got to around level 27 and my level was 28

when i got narthanc (on the first level) it did 100+ damage a round as i was leveling up it did less and less blows a round.

That isn't right. Damage and number of blows shouldn't depend on CL, only on DEC, STR, and +dam on other equipment. Better post a save file when you see this occur.

yeah, it one shotted everything untill lv15 i think. which is also when it started to suck

Don't melee things that can disenchant. I'm not sure how early disenchanter molds show up, maybe you encountered one of them; there are also some uniques like Khim and Ibun and their father Mim who can disenchant your gear.

You will get a message if that happens, so pay attention to the messages. Also, artifacts are more resistant against disenchantment, but not completely.

Since he says "it did less and less blows a round" it can also mean that str/dex was lowered due to unlucky use of stat swap potions (or temp drain as Pete said but that would have been gone with level up).

I've been tackling the learning curve hard this winter (broken rib, unemployed, winter) and all of the above baffled the heck out of me at first, so I'd say the bunch of you have pretty much given a range of possible reasons.
