Lost a gnome mage today. Got one-shotted from full HP by a giant Roc. When I started this adventure I told myself: "if your mage is taking melee damage, you are doing it wrong" but then I thought I was over-exagerating.

UBSan&ASan are even better (no noticeable initialization delay on my machine).
I'm now playing with it on. WARNING: with UBSan&ASan panic saves don't seam to work.Tags: None -
That would be a "Roc", no a "rock", although, both have killed my @'s in Angband. Rocks from falling debris to boulders thrown by giants have sometimes crushed @ to death. But a Roc is indeed a giant mythological bird originating from Arabic and from Persian. Think, "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights", or "Sinbad the Sailor".“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Giant rocs are lethal murderbirds. In ASCII mode they look identical to nighthawks, which have 36HP and do a max of 10 melee damage in a turn, but instead they have 560HP and hit for up to 336. I've even lost warriors with plenty of HP by not paying enough attention and hitting the arrow key a couple of times in succession to clear that harmless-looking bird out of my path.Comment
