Second Time is Death

I died around level 8 on my first time. Second time is 17, killed by the Mirkwood Spiders while trying to escape and restock.

But at least the one thing I accomplished is beating up the Pseudo-Dragon while carrying some Cure Potions and wielding the Main Gauche of Slay Evil. (That weapon is a Beast. )

In the early levels, ALWAYS carry curing potions and ?phase door. Your only escape is ?recall, so you can't allow yourself to wait for it to kick in. 15-20 !CCW should be your target amount as you get deeper. And use detect monsters if you have spells. Spiders won't usually follow you into a hallway unless you are down in HP, so it's usually easy to snipe them or simply evade them.

Edit: but level 17 is pretty good for your second try. Welcome!
