Pillar dancing requires @ to have greater speed than the monster. If so, @ can take a swipe at the monster, then take a step back around the pillar out of range. Rinse and repeat. A variation of this is shoot-and-scoot, where @ with a speed advantage shoots a missile or spell then backs up and does it again. Personally, I don't tend to waste my time with pillar dancing, the mental energy to calculate how many blows versus how many steps needed between blows just isn't worth it to me. I do employ shoot-and-scoot on occasion.

“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”
